Holy, Holy, Holy

The other day I was visiting with a co-worker in the faculty lounge at school.  She had decided to read the Bible this year, and was struggling through the book of Leviticus.

This lead to some other discussions about our faith, and she asked me an interesting question.

"Carol, do you ever think you won't make it to Heaven....that you won't good enough?"

It didn't take me long to answer, because I don't think getting to Heaven is about if I'm good enough or not, so I said, "No, I don't think about that.  There is a Heaven, and I will be going there."

Then we talked about Heaven and Hell, and what they might be like.

But I don't think anyone can imagine with their earthly mind what Heaven is going to be like.

But God does give us a clue.  It is found in the Book of Revelation, Chapter 4.

I think it is one of the most beautiful passages of scripture.  And this is what I hope Heaven is like.  I hope that all we are doing is what the four living creatures are doing in verse 8.  If all I do for Eternity is worship God by saying, "Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God Almighty, who was, and is, and is to come."  That sounds good to me.

The visual picture I get from this chapter in Revelation, to me, is absolutely breathtaking.  Occasionally I feel like I get a small glimpse of this while worshipping in church.

Revelation 4
The Throne of Heaven

4After this I looked, and there before me was a door standing open in heaven. And the voice I had first heard speaking to me like a trumpet said, “Come up here, and I will show you what must take place after this.” At once I was in the Spirit, and there before me was a throne in heaven with someone sitting on it. And the one who sat there had the appearance of jasper and ruby. A rainbow that shone like an emerald encircled the throne. Surrounding the throne were twenty-four other thrones, and seated on them were twenty-four elders. They were dressed in white and had crowns of gold on their heads. From the throne came flashes of lightning, rumblings and peals of thunder. In front of the throne, seven lamps were blazing. These are the seven spirits[a] of God. Also in front of the throne there was what looked like a sea of glass, clear as crystal. In the center, around the throne, were four living creatures, and they were covered with eyes, in front and in back. The first living creature was like a lion, the second was like an ox, the third had a face like a man, the fourth was like a flying eagle. Each of the four living creatures had six wings and was covered with eyes all around, even under its wings. Day and night they never stop saying:
“‘Holy, holy, holy
is the Lord God Almighty,’[b]
who was, and is, and is to come.”
Whenever the living creatures give glory, honor and thanks to him who sits on the throne and who lives for ever and ever, 10 the twenty-four elders fall down before him who sits on the throne and worship him who lives for ever and ever. They lay their crowns before the throne and say:
11 “You are worthy, our Lord and God,
to receive glory and honor and power,
for you created all things,
and by your will they were created
    and have their being.”

I have sung as part of the Worship Team at various churches we have attended, and when we sing the song called "Revelation Song", and we get to the part where they sing, "Holy, Holy, Holy, is the Lord God Almighty, Who was, and is, and is to come," I get a glimpse of Heaven.

Here is that song if you have never heard it before, and want to possibly experience a little taste of Heaven.
